Giant Vaantjesboer was born in 1958.
Halle is known already for some time for its pilgrimage to the Black Madonna.
Alot of pilgrims are using this opportunity to buy a flag and drink (some) glasses of Duivelsbier.
In that sense, giant Vaantjesboer is the personification of the people from Halle.
Sitting on a 3.000 litre vat Duivelsbier, he is selling vaantjes (flags) to the pelgrims,
and promotes the Duivelsbier.
Everytime when the giant paricipated the procession, Duivelsbier flows from the tap at
the back of the big barrel.
